Prof. Wainaina is an Associate Professor of Business Analytics in the School of Business at University of Nairobi. He holds a PhD in Agricultural Economics, Master in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Education. His work experience spans Academia (currently at the University of Nairobi); Kenya Vision 2030 Delivery Secretariat where he acted as Director General and served as Director for Social and Political Pillars; World Bank as a Senior Education Economist; CARE International in Kenya as a Regional Coordinator; and University of Nairobi Enterprises and Services Limited, as Deputy Managing Director and Business Development Manager. He has worked extensively with governments in the region including Kenya, Tanzania,Uganda, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Malawi, Zambia, Botswana, Ghana and Nigeria. He has also collaborated with institutions including the UNDP, WFP, UNICEF, World Bank, African Development Bank, DfID and Council of Governors
He has served as a board member of Capital Market Authority; alternate board member for Africa Group B Partnership in Statistics for Development in the 21st Century under Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development; and Lamu Port South Sudan and Ethiopia Transport Corridor. He is the current chairman of Kenya School of Government Council, member of Usawa Agenda Board, Council member of Management University of Africa, member of Board of Trustees for Kiambui Institute of Science and Technology, board member of the Center for Innovative Leadership and Governance, Secretary General of Operations Research Society of Eastern Africa, and member of International Statistice Institute.
He is passionate about provision of sufficient nutritional food; water harvesting and management; mainstreaming youth leadership and entrepreneurship; provision of inclusive quality lifelong learning and above all believing, practicing and championing integrity together with ‘Ubuntu’.
